Nessie Iheanyi-Igwe
Hey everyone!

My name is Nessie Iheanyi-Igwe, and I have the honor of serving as the President of the Beta Chapter of Phi Sigma Rho here at The Ohio State University. I am a sophomore from Columbia, Maryland, and have the wonderful opportunity of leading this amazing chapter of women in engineering and related fields.

Phi Rho was founded in 1984 at Purdue University, and our chapter was established not long after in 1988. We are founded in the roots of friendship, scholarship, and encouragement; we rise to the many challenges that life can bring and are a support system for one another to achieve any of our goals. The women of Phi Rho have a shared vision for the direction of our chapter, and we all embody our three core values in daily life. I am so proud to say that we are a group of smart, independent, creative, and courageous women, and I deeply feel the respect that we have for one another.

During my first semester at Ohio State I had to learn a lot about campus, classes, and community culture. As an out-of-state student with no family for miles, It was a lot to handle all on my own. I wanted to find a group of like-minded women who understood where I was in my journey. I wanted to learn alongside them, and grow into the best version of myself. I will be honest and say that rushing was not always at the top of my mind, but after hearing about this community of girls I needed to find out more. Meeting the fellow members of Phi Rho made me feel like I wasn’t alone in my college journey, and that I had an opportunity to be a part of something. Joining Greek Life has allowed me to learn so much about myself, others, and the world. The women that I have met along my journey are my lifelong friends, and I cannot thank Phi Rho enough for that.

I hope you are able to get the best experience possible out of PHA, and Ohio State’s Greek Life community. Thank you all so much for taking the time to learn about our chapter, Phi Rho is excited to meet everyone during recruitment and wishes the best of luck to all PNM’s.
